Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

DRUM LIGHT

DRUM LIGHT

‘That’s so cool that there is a light!’

Cinnamon and I sat in front of the new black Samsung washer, with Sage having done the same yesterday, strangely amused by the fact that there was a drum light that comes on for a while. My old dryer has a drum light but the washer I don’t remember having one. I was more surprised that this new washer actually filled up with more than a tablespoon of water as the other washer.

Maytag certainly did not prove to be dependable as their ad claimed. After a year, I was already starting to have problems with it. In the past two years, I have had many more problems with it. Especially in the past six months, I have had to kick it, slam the door, and unplug it for about half an hour every single time before I could wash each load. Even then you’d be lucky if it completed an entire cycle without suddenly turning off. If it did work, the beeping sound would continue for the hour it ran and would make you want to run out of the house. It’s almost as bad as the driver’s side mirror on my minivan. The one where there motor keeps running and the sound is like a never-ending dentist’s drill.

The new Samsung washer has been used only twice since it arrived yesterday. But only because the old dryer is at the other apartment and also about to be replaced, though that one will most likely be sold. At least I was able to get six years of use from the Maytag pair and hopefully much longer from the Smart Samsung pair which the kids will get to use and play with the app that can control it.

The use of the drying rack outside on the balcony proved very successful today for drying the one experimental towel set washed last night. My only fear is that anything lighter than towels will be carried away by the wind and into the neighbour’s patio or onto the walkway behind the building. But as soon as the carpet cleaners leave tomorrow, the drying rack returns inside and we continue to use our balcony as our picnic lounge area.

In addition to the light, my daughter commented on the fact that the washer was on the right-hand side instead of the left. I’m not sure who designed the laundry closet. I’m guessing someone who doesn’t do laundry on a regular basis. It will just be another interesting adventure for us. I told her we could switch them. She said there was no need ‘…because you always do things differently mama’.

Why do things the way we think they should be done when it can be more fun to experiment a different way. There is nothing wrong with being unconventional. I already have in mind an interesting way to set up this two-bedroom apartment so that all four of us will be happy. A plan to be executed next month when the children spend the next 30 days of summer with their father. For now, I will sit in front of the washer with the drum light on and watch as the new washer cleans all of our mold scented clothes from the old apartment. Sometimes the little things in life bring us most pleasure.
