THE FIRST DAY
‘Happy first day of 11th grade!’, I texted to my daughter.
‘Happy first day of 10th grade!’, I then texted to my son, even though he was just in the next room and possibly wouldn’t even see the message until he got on his laptop.
Not having had a functioning phone for over a month now has been quite the change. For the good. ‘It’s like living in the 80s’, he has stated a few times. And he prefers it that way. Life with minimal distractions, especially during the school hours.
The long summer nights and endless days of sleeping in until well past noon have come to an end. A new school year has begun, as well as the start of a new schedule for all of us.
With one daughter on her way to university, the other two are now left behind as they both get closer to the finish line with the first day behind them.
