TO GET AWAY
November is nearing its end, with December just a few days away. As the year comes to a close, the time comes to evaluate what we have accomplished, what we have yet to complete, and what will be dealt with next year.
This time last year, there was excitement as my son and I were getting ready for our trip to Norway and Denmark. To start the new year in the Arctic, 500 miles from the North Pole. Which ended up being a most wonderful and unforgettable experience. However, this year there is disappointment that we are unable to get away for the winter. Somewhere far away from here. In a place where one cannot mistake that it is winter.
With current temperatures in Austin ranging from 19C to sometimes 27C, this is anything but a typical winter. A few mornings have teased us with winter weather. Starting out with us having to wear a sweater and a jacket, or a hoodie in my son’s case, only to warm up where we wished we opted for a t-shirt instead of the sweater when it came to having to take off the jacket. I have even seen someone jump into the pool over the weekend.
The desire to start the new year in another country is a strong one. Endless searches on Google Flights and Booking.com have led to several options in Europe and the UK. Though I am still looking, the most likely scenario is that we will stay home.
Next year will be different and better.
