HOURS UPON HOURS
'How are you this morning' came the cheery voice on the other end of the phone line. Usually I do not pick up a call from an unfamiliar number but since I was moving I expected the local call to have something to do with my move. It did.
'Not so well' I replied after he identified himself. The call was from the moving company telling me they might be able to come earlier than my scheduled move today. I asked if they possibly had a cancellation for tomorrow as that was my initial request. They did but at 8,30h. It would do and would give me more time to move whatever else I could do before they arrived tomorrow.
Though I was relieved, I did not realise how much more work needed to be done. Hours upon hours I spent today going back and forth the mile from house to townhouse. I was able to move the rest of the children's beds and Sage's mattress. The zebra chair and hand carved wooden chair made it into the minivan as well. And one more chair I use at my desk.
The process was slow but the satisfaction of having done so much by myself waited for me at the end of the day. The last item I completed was disassembling the daybed couch which I hope to be able to move myself in the morning before the movers arrive.
So much more work needs to be done yet. When the landlord notified me that his last available appointment tomorrow for the walkthrough was at 18,30h, I wondered if I would be able to finish everything in time. There will be no time to get the carpets cleaned, something that was on the landlord's long list of things I need to do. Most important is getting everything out of the house. C'est la vie.
