A BREAK
‘Stop being annoying!’, I heard her say. The voice was coming from my son’s room.
My middle daughter asked if she could stay the night. My son stayed home today because he was still feeling unwell. Apparently now, he was feeling better. Enough to annoy his sister.
‘I come here to get a break!’, she exclaimed.
It’s not often that I see my girls, but lately it’s been nice to see more of them and nicer yet to see all three together. Even when they don’t get along.
The day started with rain. Then a little more rain throughout the day. However, the temperature outside did not suggest it was autumn yet. Rather it was hot and humid.
I had lentil soup ready for when Sage and Cinnamon came home, pretending it was soup weather. But they did not want the soup until later. Instead, they snacked on cheese and crackers before going to do homework.
I finished more of my work and then went to the kitchen to finish baking the remaining cookie dough. There was enough to make three large chocolate chip cookies. One for each of us. Which we enjoyed before dinner. Our simple lentil soup with naan bread.
Afterwards, my daughter and I relaxed on my son’s bed and watched a show on Netflix whilst my son lounged on the mattress on the floor and continued building his Minecraft world. They eventually went to sleep, but not without a few more minor disagreements between them.
At some point we all need a break. Whether that is from school, work, or from another part of our lives. I am glad that my children feel as if they can come to me when they need to get away for a while.
