Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

LIFE IN ORDER

LIFE IN ORDER

‘Ah, there’s your stash!’ exclaimed my son as he came into my study to hug me goodnight.

I looked over to my closet to see what he meant. He was definitely referring to the many boxes of unopened Lego sets and not the stacks of plastic boxes filled with the newest yarns from last year. Most of the sets he knows about, as we have been collecting them over the years. But there are still one or two sets which I’m saving for him for days like yesterday, when he said he really felt like building something. So, I gave him the Lego Minecraft Rabbit Ranch set which he built a bit too quickly.

I had removed the folding doors of the closet over the weekend as they kept falling off the top railing. They were cumbersome and took away floor space when opened. For now, they are in the hallway, but will soon be moved to the tiny storage closet on the balcony. In their place, I plan to put a beautiful large tapestry that my daughter bought me for my birthday.

The next step is rearranging the furniture and moving a cabinet from the dining room into my study. It’s a slow process, but the time has come to finally get my life in order. And not just the apartment.

Things have a way of getting out of hand. Especially, when our focus is on other aspects of life and the stresses which show up when we least expect them. Stresses which tend to last many years, resulting from poor decisions and not putting ourselves first. Not only can physical things get cluttered, but our minds as well.

Clutter can be caused by many things. A move, an illness, or simply by a lack of organisation. Or a lack of following through with the plan to organise, even when we bought all of the necessary boxes to do so. Sometimes we tend to hold onto items we might not need, but are not disciplined enough to dispose of them right away. We put off making the decision of what to do with things which results in a very messy and disorganised home.

I am very familiar with moving and therefore have a tendency to leave things in boxes as I know another move is on the way. My garage holds many of these boxes as does the apartment, but with our staying here for a little while longer, it is time to get things a bit more organised. This will also help greatly with mental clarity, as a house in order leads to a life in order.
