Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

FINALLY THE RAIN

FINALLY THE RAIN

The air was refreshingly cool as I set off on my walk tonight. At 28 degrees Celsius, it was still warm, but not like before. Summer is slowly coming to an end. At least that is my hope.

My hour-long walks in the evening are time to myself. To think. To release the stresses of the day. And to ponder future plans. Tonight, my thoughts wandered to more traveling. But not to Europe. There are still places in the States I have not seen. As well as in Canada.

As I made my way back around the school, along the line of the seven yellow school buses, rain finally began to fall. It was not much, but enough to make a puddle on the side of the road.

My clothes became increasingly wet as I turned the corner at the last bus and continued to the back of the high school. But I did not care. It was a pleasant change to the stifling heat of the past few months. The heat which resulted in shower faucets gracing us with either hot or a little less hot water. No cold water since the beginning of summer.

After a quick shower, I set about to make dinner. My middle daughter was spending the night and had been busy working on homework since she and her brother came home from school. Neither of the two were too hungry since they already filled up on freshly baked chocolate chip cookies earlier. One of my many experimental batches I’ve been testing these past two weeks.

We sat at the dinner table and enjoyed a light and simple meal. Warmed naan, cut into small triangles, along with avocado, hummus, Greek feta, Kalamata olives, green bell peppers, cucumbers, and dolmas from Trader Joe’s. Though I would have preferred for us to stay seated a while longer, I knew the children needed to finish their homework.

My daughter and I worked on her English assignments. What I thought would be a simple task, ended up being so much more involved as one question was actually comprised of four or five other questions. How, what, why, and give examples of all of the above. We did everything we could, but the hour was quickly approaching bedtime. Though I love writing, I never give thought to structure, tone, or syntax. However, her homework required such analysis and so much more.

The day had come to an end and I was grateful to have had my daughter here tonight. Even if for one night. I am certain my son was happy to have someone else to talk with as well.

As the year slowly draws to a close and the summer season makes way for the coziness of autumn, I am glad to see this ever so slight shift in the weather. The longer nights and finally the rain.
