TO REFLECT UPON

Oftentimes, we think we need to live up to other people’s expectations of what our life should be. That we need to follow the path they set out for us to take. To go to the school they want us to go to or to take that job they think will be good for us. We believe we will end up disappointing them if we don’t follow their desires, but what happens instead is we let down ourselves.

We mindlessly follow others on the roadmap they are using instead of making a new one for ourselves. Being a sheep rather than the shepherd. Not taking a chance to think with our own mind as it seems easier to move forward with the familiar rather than the unknown. Perfection should never be the goal, rather satisfaction with a life full of experiences. A collection of memories as opposed to an accumulation of things which we end up storing in boxes or tossing away.

When we take the time to reflect upon our future, one thing will become clear. The only person we really need to consider is ourselves. Nobody but you will live your life, so you need to find something that you can feel confident will lead you towards the life you envision for yourself. Other people’s opinions of you might seem like they matter, but they don’t. You live to impress nobody but yourself as you strive to be better than the day before.
