Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

TIME FOR YOURSELF

TIME FOR YOURSELF

Most of our days are spent doing the same thing from the moment we awaken until we go to bed at night. Habits formed over time. Without thought that there could be something else. Or that there should be. Until the signs are so clear that we need to make a change.

We believe we can cheat time and get by with little sleep, exercise, and the absence of healthy meals. And for a while, we can. Until we cannot. Until our minds flip a switch and jolt us into action. When our bodies shut down by force so that we are forced to rest and recover.

It did not take me long to decide to take a sick day today. It was necessary, as was clear from my being able to sleep for much longer than usual. After I dropped off my son at school for an early band practice this morning, I crawled back into bed. Something I never do, until I have to. It did not take too long to fall asleep. The extra two hours of sleep were just what I needed.

The morning continued with reading and then a healthy breakfast. It was almost noon by then. Though I should have gone outside to walk, I sat at the computer and started studying. Before my son was to come home, I gathered ingredients for a mini lemon poppy seed cake which my son and I enjoyed after dinner tonight.

Taking the time for yourself is something we should all make a priority. It need not be an entire day, but should be a regular habit we form. Because if we continue with our daily routine and leave out the most important person – ourselves – our minds will send a message to our bodies to stop and force us to listen. At the point where you make time for yourself, you can be of better service to others.
